Avatar Studios’ First Animated Movie Will Feature Some Very Familiar Faces

The first animated film from Avatar Studios, the Nickelodeon team set up to work on movies and shows in the Last Airbender universe, will feature Avatar Aang and his friends, according to an announcement made during San Diego Comic-Con (via Gizmodo). While there’s no word on the cast or a story synopsis yet, some fans have expressed excitement over the possibility of seeing Team Avatar – consisting of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph , Zuko, Suki and, of course, Appa – in Something New.

According Polygonthe show will focus on Team Avatar as young adults, giving us a look at some of the events that happen between The last air Master and The Legend of Korra. There is, of course, a fair to share of people hoping to see something focused on new charactersAs those of the novels. (Given the tease in the announcement video, that’s understandable.)

If you’re in this camp, don’t give up hope just yet. This is only the first of three animated films the studio is working on, so there’s potentially plenty of room for other characters to make their screen debuts.

Outside of Avatar Studios, Netflix is working on a live-action adaptation of the original show due out at some point, although I can’t say I’m that excited for this one given a) the story Netflix live-action adaptations, b) the history of the live-action Avatar adaptations, and c) the fact that the series’ original creators left that project.
