Classic Animated Comedy ‘The Proud Family’ Celebrates Diversity and Returns for a New Generation on Disney+

HOLLYWOOD — “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” is a new chapter in a groundbreaking show. The return of the series is over 20 years in the making and is eagerly awaited by fans.

The family is reunited in a new Disney+ series, complete with the voice cast that started it all.

“Once they said we were going to do it, I was like ‘tell me when!’ said Tommy Davison.

“They ask me if I’m interested in being part of a reboot and I was like ‘what kind of question is that? Who else is going to play Penny? “says Kayla Pratt.

In this updated version, Penny is a teenager; the world is immensely different and the show actively embraces it. There are several LGBTQ+ characters, including a nonconforming trailblazer, voiced by EJ Johnson.

“We haven’t seen those types of characters, pretty much at all,” Johnson said. “Especially in the animated space and with such a large and essential business as Disney. So that’s a big deal.”

“Louder and prouder” shouts louder about important things, said Jo Marie Payton. “We say it’s good to be you.”

Over the course of the season, you’ll also hear plenty of familiar early guest voices, including Lizzo, Gabrielle Union, and Anthony Anderson.

“It’s really important how the world sees us,” Davidson said.

“It’s so exciting to be back in that vibe and to give people who enjoyed that show even more fun with their kids now,” Pratt said.

The revival of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, February 23.
