Editorial cartoons from November 21, 2021: Infrastructure bill, inflation, Rittenhouse trial

President Joe Biden on Monday signed the $ 1 trillion infrastructure bill, which will inject billions into roads, bridges, railways, public transportation, broadband internet service, electric vehicles and the country’s water systems. The gallery’s main image, by Michael Ramirez of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, captures the implications of the deficit bill.

Other editorial cartoonists have criticized former President Donald Trump’s broken promise to pass an infrastructure bill during his tenure. Bill Bramhall of the New York Daily News photographed Biden’s smiley face on Trump’s book “The Art of the Deal,” and Mike Lukovich of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution linked Biden’s accomplishment to the slogan “Make America Great Again” of Trump.

Inflation was once again a dominant theme this week. Ramirez marks with spiritual reference to the fable of the frog in a pot of water that doesn’t notice it boils until it’s too late.

Other topics covered in the cartoons include the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted on Friday of all counts in the shooting deaths of two men and the injuries of a third during the unrest in Kenosha, Wis. ; the shortage of labor in low-wage jobs; the upcoming battle for Biden’s “Build Back Better” bill; supply chain issues; and the weariness of American healthcare workers 18 months after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The cartoons were drawn by Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Sheneman, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Phil Hands, Joel Pett and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and AF Branco, Mike Luckovich and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
