Haikyu Movie Announced, Anime Will End With Two-Part Movie Instead Of S5

The latest installment of the Haikyu anime saga has just been announced, with Production IG preferring a two-part theatrical film over Season 5.

Haikyu is arguably the most popular sports anime and manga in the world and has been at the pinnacle of the genre since its serialization in February 2012.

The first three seasons of Haikyu were released in 2014, 2015, and 2016 respectively; however, season 4 was a split-court production, with the first set of episodes being released in early 2020 and the second run ending in December of the same year.

Now, over 18 months later, the future of the Haikyu anime has finally been revealed with the show’s Japanese website confirming that the series will in fact end with a two-part theatrical film, and not the season 5.

Haikyu Anime Gets Final Anime Movie, Not Season 5

Just a few minutes ago, August 13eofficial japanese website for the Haikyu anime series has confirmed that a final theatrical film is in development.

A countdown had been running on the website for several weeks, with a new trailer premiering on Toho Animation’s YouTube channel when that counter finally hit 0 only a few minutes ago.

The teaser confirmed that “The production of ‘HAIKYU! The two-part production of the theatrical version of the FINAL anime sequel has been decided!

Prior to this announcement, there had been some confusion over whether this upcoming installment would actually be Season 5 of the main anime series. As previously stated, it started when Season 4 was split into two courtyards and when the second courtyard was created, many fans and news outlets mistakenly assumed that it was the fifth season.

To be clear, Haikyu has released four seasons of TV anime so far, with a two-part theatrical movie being preferred over a fifth TV season – which will conclude the series.

As fans around the world celebrate the news of the anime’s return, few would have been too surprised to see Haikyu finally find his way to the big screen – the main reason being that the anime hadn’t yet adapted the entire manga.

By AnimeGeek, the anime found a breaking point at volume 33 chapter 292 of the original series. The good news is that although the manga ended in July 2020, it ended with a total of 45 volumes and 402 chapters in total. published in Japan.

Interestingly, the official English Haikyu!! Twitter The page also posted a message ahead of the Season 4 finale in 2020 thanking fans for their support of the show and ending with “Looking forward to more!

Then we have popularity; a safe bet for the Haikyu series. The anime is widely regarded as one of the best sports anime, with scores of 8.7/10 on IMDB8.6/10 on RatinGraph and a score of 8.45/10, 8.64/10, 8.79/10, 7.82/10, 8.36/10 and 8.54/10 on the whole MyListAnime respective ratings (including OVAs).

Latest Haikyu Movie: Release Date TBD

While news of a two-part Haikyu film is welcome, unfortunately a targeted release window for the concluding films was not revealed as part of the recent announcement; however, we can make some predictions based on the production schedule of previous seasons.

Season 4 was announcement at Jump Festa ’19 and premiered in January 2020, on a production cycle of approximately 13 months. Assuming each part of the final film will be produced separately, rather than as an ongoing production, fans could see the film hit Japanese theaters as early as September 2023.

Interestingly, this theory was reaffirmed with the movie’s announcement confirming that the “launch event will take place in August 2023” – which usually happens around 3 weeks before the national premiere.

However, international fans should note that the worldwide release will likely be delayed from the domestic premiere, which usually takes place between one and three months before the overseas release – likely around November 2023.

This article will be updated as more information about the Haikyu movie is shared.
