Maverick’s Jennifer Connelly Joins Joel Edgerton in Apple Multiverse Series


Jennifer Connelly takes to the mind-blowing multiverse on Apple TV+. Get out of the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverickthe oscar winner (a beautiful spirit) the actor will star alongside Joel Edgerton (Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Thirteen Lives) at Apple Black matter, a new science fiction series in nine episodes based on the book by Blake Crouch. Connelly, who currently stars in TNT snowdrops, will play Daniela, the wife of Edgerton’s character. Hailed as one of the best science fiction novels of the decade, Crouch’s Black matter is a story on the road not taken.

The series will follow Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physicist, professor, and family man who – one night while driving home through the streets of Chicago – is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare as he attempts to return to his reality amidst the multiverse of lifetimes he could have lived. In this maze of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to find his true family and save them from the most terrifying and unstoppable enemy imaginable: himself.

Crouch (Temperamental pines, good behavior) will write and present the series inspired by his book. Sony Pictures Television (You better call Saul, boys) product for Apple TV+. Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Fast X) was to direct the first four episodes of the nine-episode series; the first three episodes will be directed by Jakob Verbruggen (black mirror, The twilight zone to restart, Invasion). Matt Tolmach (Jumanji franchise, Venom, Spider-Man: No Coming Home) and David Manpearl (Jumanji: the next level) serve as executive producers for Matt Tolmach Productions.

Black matter will premiere as part of Apple’s expanding sci-fi slate, which includes the Emmy-winning third season For all mankind, also from Sony Pictures TV; the second season of Foundation by David S. Goyer; and Invasion.
