The painted plywood figures appeared Wednesday morning in the park at the corner of Foul Bay Road and Oak Bay Avenue, after disappearing in November.

The gang is all there – again.

The beloved Peanuts cartoon characters are home with the Oak Bay Park Service after being robbed in November from their pride of place in the municipality’s annual holiday display at the entrance park .

Lucy, Charlie Brown and her sister Sally have been kidnapped.

The painted plywood figures appeared Wednesday morning in the park at the corner of Foul Bay Road and Oak Bay Avenue, said Chris Hyde-Lay, city parks manager.

The three are now safely stored along with Lucy and Peppermint Patty, who were not stolen, and the other municipality holiday decorations. Before being released for the next end-of-year celebrations, they will receive a new coat of paint.

They will be released “for everyone’s enjoyment” this winter, said Hyde-Lay, who is grateful they were all returned.

As to who had retained them, that remains an unsolved mystery.

The Peanuts characters were created by Oak Bay employee Tim Roberts and his daughter Meghan years ago, and were later donated to Oak Bay, Hyde-Lay said.

When the characters were taken, “the community was crushed,” he said.

Another family stepped in to make facsimiles of the three missing characters.

Today, residents celebrate the return of the originals. A page on social media has hundreds of positive responses to the news that the Peanuts gang is back together again.
