Panthers RB McCaffrey out for the season with ankle injury | Sports News

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) – Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey will be missing the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

McCaffrey had an MRI on Monday which revealed the injury was serious enough to put him in the injured reserve. Due to his expected recovery time and given that this would be his second time on IR, the news means McCaffrey will miss Carolina’s final five regular season games after his week off.

The 2017 first-round pick was injured in the first half of Carolina’s 33-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins and played sparingly in the second half.

This is the second year in a row that McCaffrey has finished the season on the injured list. He only played three games last season.

Since becoming the highest-paid running back in the NFL with a four-year, $ 64 million contract after the 2019 season, McCaffrey will have missed 23 of 33 games in the past two seasons due to injury.

The 2019 All-Pro has totaled 421 yards on 68 carries and one touchdown over the past four weeks. He finished the season with 442 yards and one touchdown, and 37 catches for 343 yards and one touchdown.
