Possibly the best issue of the series to date

x-men keeps Gameworld’s storyline to a solid ending in issue #12, helping the title progress with great results. Several important questions are answered, leaving the flagship title in an interesting place for the debut of the Gala issue.

The Sinister Reveal Is Heating Up, And It’s Great To See Scott like dropping him on an ankle considering their history together. Part of me read those scenes and wished the story digs deeper into what makes it so personal for Scott given their story, making it a more impactful scene. But in the end, what we got was still so good and satisfying, so I can’t complain.

Seeing all the X-Men ladies on Gameworld was a fun little excursion. One thing the show did that I really liked was having each member of the team reveal what got them into being on the X-Men one by one, showing their thoughts on gala night. One concern I had always had about this book was that 12 issues didn’t seem like enough to do justice to these characters, especially if they were all to be swapped out by the next Gala.

However, x-men #12 crushes those concerns and finally answers that question, revealing that many teammates will stay but some could be traded. With that in place, the book can grow organically and retain longer storylines, hopefully leaving room for further exploration of such characters as Lorna, Laura, and Shiro.

Scott has arguably been the lead on this series, getting what seems like the most attention and action points. With Scott’s big shot in Urich’s plot, he reveals he’ll likely be kicked off the team for this, leaving Scott in an incredibly interesting position going forward. Because Scott had so much to do comparatively, he seems like the best pick to drop from this team when the Gala shakes things up.

x-men #12 leaves me interested in the future as a fan of Scott, since he generally defines himself as the leader of the X-Men. And now ? I’m interested to see where things take him. It also excites me as an X-Men fan, excited to see this team stick together at least a little and grow with new characters at the same time.

Larraz’s illustrations are as beautiful as ever, making each issue look like a 10/10 comic book. Duggan’s writing picked up the plot and seems to have secured a pretty good formula for handling the changing X-Men title roster in the Krakoa era.
