“Hello again, friend of a friend.” Scott pilgrim, the successful six-volume comic book series by artist-creator Bryan Lee O’Malley which debuted in 2006, was first adapted just over a decade ago with Edgar Wright Scott Pilgrim vs the world. While the 2010 adaptation did not perform well at the box office, it was well received by critics and gained significant following in the years following its release. Now, Scott pilgrim returns to the screen, but this time it’s an animated adaptation on Netflix.

In 2020, there were whispers from Wright that an animated Scott pilgrim the series was already in the works, but the pandemic then happened and fans haven’t heard anything about the adaptation for over a year. But now it looks like Wright’s dream is about to come true, with the showrunner behind the rebirth of Are you scared of the dark? at Nickelodeon, BenDavid Grabinski and Scott pilgrim artist-creator O’Malley just announced they are the writers and executive producer duo behind the new animated film Scott pilgrim series for Netflix.

Although there is no serial order yet, an exclusive report in Hollywood journalist confirms that Netflix and UCP, the division of Universal Studio Group behind The Umbrella Academy and Chucky, develop an animated adaptation of the Oni Press series Scott pilgrim, which follows the eponymous character as he fights the Seven Villainous ex of Ramona Flowers. However, as Pilgrim takes on the challenges, things get more complicated for him thanks to his unresolved issues with his ex-girlfriend, Envy Adams, who is played by Brie Larson in Wright’s adaptation of the graphic novel.

Fans of Wright’s cult 2010 adaptation are still talking about it a decade later. In one of Larson’s first concerts as an actress, she stars as Envy Adams and steals the show with a cover of the song “Black Sheep”, originally performed by the band Metric. The omission of Larson’s version of “Black Sheep” from the film’s 22-song soundtrack has forced fans to search for it online, where the scene has racked up over 55 million views on Youtube.
