Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of Batman: The Animated Series! It’s crazy that thirty years have passed since the first broadcast of this program! This series was a big part of my growth, and it’s still one of the best and greatest anime series ever made. To this day, he may favorite version of Batman.
I was lucky as a kid when this show was on because my uncle, Frank Paur, was one of the directors of the show. He used to come to my house on the weekends with a VHS tape in his hand with a new episode of the show coming up. Yes, I was able to watch many episodes of the show months before they aired on TV. I watched them so early that most of the time they were still unfinished.
I remember going to my uncle’s house and going through the storyboard he was working on for the next episodes. Having an uncle working on that show at the time was so cool! Then, of course, it was always fun to meet up with friends to watch the show.
The series was developed by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Michael Brian. Other talented directors included Kevin Altieri, Boyd Kirkland, Dan Riba, Dick Sebastand Eric Radomsky. There was also a whole team of writers who developed the impressive stories he told.
Batman: The Animated Series set the high standard for what animated shows could and should be. That’s a high bar to reach, and only a handful of shows that have been made since have been able to reach that bar.
