The I Am Groot animated series is coming to Disney Plus in August

I am Groot will be hit Disney Plus on August 10. The animated series of shorts centers around none other than baby Groot himself, with Vin Diesel reprising his role as the voice of the adorable anthropomorphic sapling.

Marvel Studios has teased the upcoming series in a tweet, showing an official poster featuring Baby Groot relaxing on one of the headphones attached to Peter Quill’s (played by Chris Pratt) iconic Walkman. It sits next to a palm-shaped air freshener – which shows just how small it really is – with two four-eyed penguin-like creatures (which are somehow even smaller than Baby Groot) peering out from behind . We haven’t seen these two mischievous creatures in any of The guardians of the galaxy movies, but it looks like they will play a part in the new series.

Besides the poster, Marvel and Disney haven’t revealed much else about the series, though Marvel vaguely describes it as “after the glory days of Baby Groot growing up and getting into trouble among the stars”. We don’t know if other Guardians will make an appearance on the show in animated form, or if it will just focus on Groot (and his very limited vocabulary).

Disney already has several short series — most aimed at children — on its streaming service that follow beloved secondary characters who may not have been featured in the movies they appeared in, like Off-peak days, Olaf presentsand Scrat’s Tales of the Ice Age. I’m not denying that Disney deals the hell out of love with these characters, but I’m not really complaining either.

I am Groot should debut just before She-Hulk: Lawyer, which arrives on Disney Plus on August 17. This is the first original guardians of the galaxy spin-off so far, but isn’t Disney’s last – live-action Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will stream exclusively on Disney Plus in December.
